File Uploader

The artwork arrives with the order, not three emails later.

Custom and personalised products need a file from the customer, and asking for it after checkout is where the time goes. This puts the upload on the product page, before they pay, so every order reaches you with the file already attached.

Live on the Shopify App Store Free plan, Pro at $5.99 a month 7 day trial on Pro
A file upload panel open on a laptop and a phone, files uploading.

Where the file ends up

In both places you would look for it, so nobody has to be told which screen to open.

On the Shopify order

The upload is attached to the line it belongs to, so whoever opens the order in your Shopify admin has the file there, beside the size and the options the customer picked.

In the app, by order

Every upload is also listed in the app against its order number, which is where you go when you want several at once or need one again after the fact.

What the customer does

Picks the file on the product page

The upload sits with the options they are already choosing, so there is no second step to remember and nothing to send on afterwards.

Cannot skip it where it matters

On a product you cannot print without artwork, the file can be made a condition of adding to cart. No file, no order to chase.

Sends what a designer sends

Photographs, PDFs, and on Pro the vector and layered files people actually have: AI, EPS, PSD, SVG, and a ZIP when there are several.

Finds it where they expect it

The uploader takes the styling you give it, so it reads as part of your store rather than something bolted to it.

What you control

Set once in the app, applied on the storefront. The limits below are the Pro ones; the free plan runs a smaller version of the same thing.

Questions

Where does the upload field appear?

On the product page, before the customer adds to cart, so the file is attached to the order from the start rather than chased down by email afterwards.

Can I make a file required?

Yes. A product can refuse to go into the cart until a file is attached, which is what you want on anything you cannot print without artwork.

What file types are allowed?

The free plan takes PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF and PDF. Pro adds AI, EPS, PSD, SVG and ZIP, which covers the files a designer sends.

How large can a file be?

Up to 25 MB on the free plan. On Pro you choose the limit yourself, from 25, 50, 75 or 100 MB per file.

How long are files kept?

One or three days on the free plan, and anything up to 30 days on Pro. Download what you need inside that window and it is yours to keep.

Does the file get added to the order?

Yes. The upload is attached to the order line in your Shopify admin, so it is there when you open the order, and it is listed in the app against the same order number.

How do I get the files customers send?

Open the order and download the file from the line it is attached to, or go into the app, where uploads are listed by order.
